About Shkodër

Shkodër is one of the oldest and most culturally significant cities in Albania, often called the country's cultural capital. Located at the southeastern tip of Lake Shkodër — the largest lake in Southern Europe — and near the confluence of the Buna and Drin rivers, it enjoys a stunning natural setting crowned by the ancient Rozafa Castle.

With a history spanning over 2,000 years, Shkodër has been a center of art, religion, and commerce. It's the main gateway to the Albanian Alps (Accursed Mountains) and the legendary Koman Ferry route, making it essential for any traveler heading to northern Albania's dramatic mountain scenery.
