About Burgas

Burgas is Bulgaria's fourth-largest city and the main gateway to the southern Black Sea coast. While often overlooked in favor of its resort neighbors, Burgas has transformed itself into a pleasant, livable city with a beautifully renovated seaside park, excellent cultural venues, and a relaxed atmosphere. It's surrounded by lakes that attract flamingos and pelicans — a birdwatcher's paradise.

The city serves as an ideal base for exploring nearby gems like Sozopol, Nesebar, and Strandzha Nature Park. Its compact center is easy to navigate on foot, and its waterfront promenade is one of the best in Bulgaria.

Interesting Places to Visit

Sea Garden (Morska Gradina)

Burgas's beautifully renovated seaside park stretching along the coast. Sculptures, fountains, playgrounds, and walking paths lead to the beach. The sunset views from the pier are spectacular.

St. Anastasia Island

A tiny island in Burgas Bay, once a monastery, then a prison, now a museum and boutique guesthouse. Reached by boat from the port. A unique experience with lovely views back toward the coast.

Atanasovsko Lake

Poda Protected Area

A small wetland reserve at the southern edge of the city. An important stopover for migratory birds on the Via Pontica flyway. The visitor center offers guided birdwatching tours.
