Savonlinna
About Savonlinna
Savonlinna is a picturesque lakeside town in the heart of the Finnish Lake District, built on islands connected by bridges between lakes Haukivesi and Pihlajavesi. The town is dominated by the magnificent medieval Olavinlinna Castle, which rises dramatically from a rocky islet and hosts the world-famous Savonlinna Opera Festival each July.
Surrounded by pristine lakes and forests, Savonlinna is a gateway to Finland's stunning lakeland nature. Saimaa ringed seals — one of the rarest seals in the world — inhabit the nearby waters. The town offers a tranquil Finnish lake experience combined with world-class cultural events.
