Mykonos
About Mykonos
Mykonos is the cosmopolitan jewel of the Cyclades, known worldwide for its glamorous beach clubs, vibrant nightlife, and iconic whitewashed architecture. The island has been a playground for artists, celebrities, and free spirits since the 1960s. Despite its party reputation, Mykonos Town (Chora) retains genuine Cycladic charm with winding alleys designed to confuse pirates.
Beyond the beach bars, Mykonos offers beautiful fishing harbors, the iconic Kato Mili windmills, the Little Venice waterfront, and easy access to the sacred island of Delos — one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece.

Quick Tips
- Currency: Euro (EUR). Cards widely accepted, but carry cash for small tavernas and water taxis.
- Transport: Local buses run from Fabrika station to major beaches. Rent an ATV or car for flexibility. Water taxis connect beaches along the south coast.
- Tipping: 5–10% at restaurants is appreciated. Beach club service staff rely on tips.
- Budget warning: Mykonos is Greece's most expensive island. Beach club sunbeds can cost €50–100. Seek out local tavernas away from the waterfront for better prices.
- Wind: The Meltemi winds blow strongly in July and August. South coast beaches are more sheltered; north coast beaches get waves popular with windsurfers.
Interesting Places to Visit
Little Venice
A row of 18th-century fishing houses built right on the sea edge, with colorful balconies hanging over the waves. Now home to cocktail bars and restaurants with stunning sunset views. The most romantic spot on the island.
Delos Island (Day Trip)
The mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, just 30 minutes by boat. An entire island of ancient ruins — the Terrace of the Lions, ancient theaters, and mosaic floors. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and essential day trip.
Kato Mili Windmills
The iconic row of 16th-century windmills on a hill above Chora. Originally used to mill grain from ships, they are now the most photographed landmark on Mykonos. Best viewed at sunset.
Panagia Paraportiani Church
A stunning asymmetric whitewashed church in Chora, actually five churches merged into one over centuries. Its organic, sculptural form has inspired countless artists and photographers.
Paradise & Super Paradise Beaches
The legendary party beaches of Mykonos. Paradise Beach has DJ sets from afternoon onwards, while Super Paradise is known for its inclusive and energetic atmosphere. Both have restaurants and sunbed rentals.
Ano Mera Village
The only inland village on Mykonos, centered around the 16th-century Panagia Tourliani Monastery. A quieter, more traditional side of the island with authentic tavernas on the village square. Great for a half-day escape.
When to Visit
Mykonos has a hot Mediterranean climate tempered by the Meltemi winds:
🌸 Spring (April – May)
Great shoulder season. Warm (17–23°C), few crowds, and lower prices. Many beach clubs and restaurants open by mid-May. Ideal for exploring Chora and day-tripping to Delos.
- Wildflowers across the island's hills
- Perfect weather for hiking and sightseeing
- Hotels at 30–50% below peak rates
☀️ Summer (June – August)
Hot (25–32°C) and the full party season. Every beach club, restaurant, and bar is open and buzzing. July–August are the busiest and most expensive months. Meltemi winds cool the coast.
- World-class DJ sets at beach clubs
- XLSIOR Festival (August) — major events
- Peak beach season on all coasts
🍂 Autumn (September – October)
Warm (20–26°C) and excellent. September rivals summer with fewer crowds. October is quieter as some venues close, but the sea stays warm and the light is beautiful.
- Sea still warm enough for swimming
- Excellent dining without reservations
- Lower prices and peaceful evenings
❄️ Winter (November – March)
Mild (10–15°C) but windy and quiet. Most tourist businesses close. Only a handful of restaurants and hotels operate. Appealing for solitude seekers and off-season explorers.
- Authentic local life without tourists
- Dramatic winter seas and empty beaches
- Very limited dining and accommodation options
