About Sopron

Sopron is Hungary's most faithful city — it earned this title after a 1921 referendum when residents voted to remain part of Hungary rather than join Austria. Nestled against the Austrian border, this charming medieval town boasts one of the best-preserved historic centers in Hungary, with Roman ruins, Gothic churches, and Baroque palaces layered over 2,000 years of continuous habitation.

Surrounded by the Sopron wine region (known for excellent Kékfrankos reds and Traminer whites), rolling hills, and Lake Fertő (Neusiedler See), Sopron is a delightful blend of history, wine, and nature.
