Klaipėda
About Klaipėda
Klaipėda is Lithuania's third-largest city and its only seaport, located where the Curonian Lagoon meets the Baltic Sea. Founded as Memelburg by the Teutonic Knights in 1252, the city has a rich German-Lithuanian heritage visible in its charming half-timbered Old Town, known as the Fachwerk district.
Klaipėda serves as the gateway to the Curonian Spit — a UNESCO World Heritage sand dune peninsula shared with Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast. The city itself offers a pleasant mix of maritime culture, street art, and a thriving restaurant scene.
