About Vilnius

Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is a UNESCO World Heritage city renowned for its stunning Old Town — one of the largest and best-preserved medieval old towns in Eastern Europe. The city blends Baroque, Gothic, and Renaissance architecture with a lively arts scene, cozy courtyards, and a famously bohemian self-declared republic of Užupis.

With affordable prices, excellent coffee culture, and a compact walkable center, Vilnius is one of Europe's most underrated capitals. It also serves as a perfect base for day trips to Trakai and the surrounding countryside.

Quick Tips

  • Currency: Euro (EUR). Cards are accepted almost everywhere, including small cafés and markets.
  • Transport: The Old Town is very walkable. Public buses and trolleybuses cover the whole city. Buy a Vilniečio Kortelė transport card for cheaper fares.
  • Tipping: Not obligatory but appreciated. Rounding up or leaving 5–10% is common in restaurants.
  • Užupis: Don't miss the self-declared "Republic of Užupis" — an artistic neighborhood with its own constitution, president, and anthem. Read the constitution on the wall in dozens of languages.
  • Coffee: Vilnius has an incredible specialty coffee scene. Try local roasters like Crooked Nose & Coffee Stories or Taste Map.
