Esch-sur-Alzette
About Esch-sur-Alzette
Esch-sur-Alzette is Luxembourg's second-largest city and a fascinating example of industrial reinvention. Once the heart of the country's steel industry, it has transformed into a vibrant cultural hub — named European Capital of Culture in 2022. The Belval district, built on a former steelworks site, is now home to the University of Luxembourg, concert halls, and striking industrial architecture.
The city has a multicultural character, with a large immigrant community giving it a lively, diverse food scene. Street art, indie galleries, and a growing nightlife make it Luxembourg's most creative and forward-looking city.
