Sibiu
About Sibiu
Sibiu is one of Romania's most beautiful and best-preserved medieval cities. A former European Capital of Culture (2007), this Transylvanian gem was founded by German Saxon settlers in the 12th century. Its pastel-colored houses with iconic "eye" dormers, cobblestone squares, and well-maintained fortifications create an enchanting atmosphere.
The city is also a gateway to the Făgăraș Mountains and the famous Transfăgărășan highway. With excellent museums, a vibrant cultural calendar, and some of Romania's best restaurants, Sibiu punches well above its weight.
