About Kragujevac

Kragujevac is Serbia's fourth-largest city and its former capital (1818–1841). Located in the heart of the Šumadija region — Serbia's green, hilly heartland — it played a pivotal role in the country's independence and modernization. The first Serbian constitution was proclaimed here, and the city became an industrial center known for the Zastava automobile factory.

Today Kragujevac is a university city with a youthful energy, excellent parks, and deep historical significance. The Šumarice Memorial Park, commemorating a WWII massacre, is one of the most powerful memorial sites in Europe. The surrounding Šumadija countryside offers beautiful rolling hills, vineyards, and monasteries.
