Zlatibor
About Zlatibor
Zlatibor is Serbia's most popular mountain resort, sitting at around 1,000 meters elevation in western Serbia. Known for its fresh air, pine forests, rolling meadows, and year-round outdoor activities, it has been a beloved vacation destination for Serbians for over a century. The area combines natural beauty with modern tourist infrastructure, including the Gold Gondola — one of the longest cable cars in the world.
Beyond the resort center, Zlatibor offers access to spectacular natural attractions including Stopića Cave, Gostilje Waterfall, and the open-air museum village of Sirogojno. The region is also famous for its traditional cuisine — smoked meats, kajmak, and mountain lamb.

Quick Tips
- Currency: Serbian Dinar (RSD). Cards accepted in hotels and larger restaurants, but bring cash for rural kafanas and roadside stalls.
- Transport: A car is ideal for exploring the region. Buses run from Belgrade (4 hours). Within the resort, the Gold Gondola connects key points.
- Tipping: Round up or leave 10%. Casual and appreciated.
- Hiking: Trails are well-marked. The area around Tornik peak (1,496 m) has the best views. Bring layers — mountain weather changes quickly.
- Local products: Buy pršuta (smoked ham), kajmak, honey, and rakija directly from farmers. The quality is exceptional and prices are very fair.
