Košice is Slovakia's second-largest city and the cultural capital of eastern Slovakia. It boasts the longest main street in Europe — Hlavná ulica — lined with beautiful Gothic, Renaissance, and Art Nouveau buildings. In 2013, Košice served as a European Capital of Culture, which sparked a wave of urban renewal and creative energy that continues today.

St. Elisabeth Cathedral (Dóm sv. Alžbety)
The largest Gothic cathedral in Slovakia and the easternmost Gothic cathedral of its kind in Europe. Climb the 160 steps to the top of the north tower for stunning panoramic views of the city.
Hlavná ulica (Main Street)
Europe's longest main street is a wide, pedestrian-friendly boulevard lined with historic buildings, fountains, cafés, and restaurants. The Singing Fountain in front of the State Theatre is especially enchanting in the evening.
East Slovak Museum (Východoslovenské múzeum)
Home to the famous Košice Gold Treasure — 2,920 gold coins and a gold chain from the 15th–17th centuries, discovered in 1935. The museum also covers regional history and natural history.
Spiš Castle (day trip)
One of the largest castle complexes in Central Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site about 1 hour west of Košice. The dramatic ruins perched on a limestone cliff are unforgettable. Well worth the day trip.
Jakab's Palace (Jakabov palác)
A romantic Neo-Gothic palace that looks like it belongs in a fairytale. Located just north of the Old Town center. Beautiful exterior — a favorite photo spot for visitors and locals alike.
Kunsthalle Košice
A contemporary art gallery housed in a beautifully renovated indoor swimming pool from the 1960s. Rotating exhibitions of Slovak and international modern art. A legacy of the 2013 European Capital of Culture year.
Slovak Technical Museum
Fascinating collection spanning aviation, mining, metallurgy, and technology. The planetarium is a highlight. Great for families and anyone interested in industrial heritage.

Košice has a continental climate with distinct seasons:

Excellent time to visit. Temperatures rise to 12–22°C. The city parks bloom and outdoor terraces reopen. Fewer visitors than summer.
