About Salamanca

Salamanca is Spain's golden city — quite literally, as its sandstone buildings glow warm amber in the afternoon light. Home to one of Europe's oldest universities (founded in 1218), it has been a center of learning for over 800 years, giving the city an infectious intellectual energy and youthful spirit.

The UNESCO-listed old town is a masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance and Plateresque architecture. The Plaza Mayor, widely considered Spain's most beautiful square, is the living room of the city — students, professors, and families gather here from morning until well past midnight. Salamanca is affordable, walkable, and captivating.
