About Kharkiv
Kharkiv is Ukraine's second-largest city and its academic and intellectual powerhouse. A former capital of Soviet Ukraine (1919–1934), it features bold Constructivist architecture, the largest square in Europe, and a youthful energy driven by its many universities. The city is a hub of science, technology, and contemporary art.
Though less tourist-oriented than Kyiv or Lviv, Kharkiv rewards curious travelers with its striking urban landscape, excellent parks, and a thriving underground culture scene. The city's resilience and spirit are inspiring.

- Currency: Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH). Cards accepted at most establishments, but cash is useful for smaller shops.

Interesting Places to Visit
Freedom Square (Ploshcha Svobody)
One of the largest city squares in Europe, surrounded by grand Constructivist buildings including the iconic Derzhprom. The massive open space is impressive and gives a sense of the city's Soviet-era ambition.
Derzhprom (Gosprom)
A masterpiece of Constructivist architecture, completed in 1928. This interconnected complex of towers was one of the first skyscrapers in the Soviet Union. A must-see for architecture enthusiasts.
Annunciation Cathedral
A striking Neo-Byzantine cathedral with a tall bell tower, completed in 1901. The ornate brick exterior and gilded domes stand out against the city skyline. One of Kharkiv's most beautiful landmarks.
Shevchenko Garden
The oldest park in Kharkiv, established in 1804. A beautiful green oasis with fountains, walking paths, and a zoo. Perfect for a relaxing afternoon away from the busy center.
Kharkiv Art Museum
One of Ukraine's best art museums with collections spanning Ukrainian, Russian, and Western European art. Highlights include works by Repin, Aivazovsky, and Ukrainian avant-garde artists.
Gorky Central Park
A large, well-maintained park with an amusement area, rope park, and beautiful walking trails. The park features a striking cable-stayed bridge and is a favorite with families and joggers.
Mirror Stream (Dzerkalnyi Strumin)
A charming pavilion-fountain in the center of the city, built in 1947. Beautifully illuminated at night, it has become one of Kharkiv's most recognizable symbols and a popular meeting spot.

Good time to visit. Warming temperatures (5–22°C), blooming parks, and the city shaking off winter. May is particularly pleasant.
